Placing an emphasis on safety, the adventure tours are well organized, fun, and educational. Options include safaris, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and other mountains, and cultural tours. Guide Onesmo Gabriel comes highly recommended, and we look forward to traveling with him at some point.

Featured company of the week: Arctic Wild. Around since 1998, they provide professionally guided adventure tours in Alaska. Canoeing, backpacking, and rafting are options, as well as base camp wildlife trips, photography trips, and family trips. Choose from one of their group trips or design a private custom one of your own. They also provide support for film and science expeditions throughout Alaska – pretty cool!
Arctic Wild is based in Fairbanks, and they specialize in one – three week adventures in arctic Alaska. Groups are small (1 – 8 people), and saftey is their number one priority in the remote, beautiful, wildlife-rich areas they visit.

Our featured guide of the week is Peter Amann. The Adventure Spot co-founders have experienced Peter’s expertise on a couple of occasions and look forward to traveling with him again.
Peter is located in the Canadian Rockies and offers rock climbing, backpacking, heli-hiking, and other adventures. He is ACMG certified and has 35 years of climbing and guiding experience.
He also trains the Canadian Military’s Search and Rescue Technicians and is an Avalanche Technician/Forecaster.
Whether you opt for a few hours of learning to rock climb (on great sticky rock that will make you feel like Spiderman!), a helicopter ride into, overnight at, and hike out of Mt. Robson Park, or a week or more of backpacking in the backcountry, you’re sure to have an amazing time with Peter as your guide. In addition to his making you feel comfortable and safe when experiencing new things (such as learning basic glacier travel skills, self-arrest, etc.), he’s also funny and fun.

Our featured local company of the week is Mountain Lodges of Peru. A fabulous, full-service, luxury company (which Adventure Spot co-founders traveled with), Mountain Lodges of Peru provides trekking and horse riding adventures. The trekking trip is an amazing way to see Machu Picchu, with no crowds along the way. Taking a back route, near Salkantay, hikers trek from beautiful lodge to beautiful lodge, with a crew of cooks and pack animals carrying much of our gear. Many of the lodges have outdoor hot tubs, and two even have masseuses! The rooms are beautiful and comfortable – and private.
The scenary is breathtaking and exhilarating. In fact, this itinerary is so amazing that Machu Picchu itself can feel anticlimactic.
Another option with this company is horse riding along the Pacific Ocean and beautiful sand dunes.

Our first featured company of the week is Fjallabak, a fabulous family owned and operated company in Iceland. Fjallabak means “Behind the Mountains,” which is the name of a famous Icelandic trail.
Fjallabak features great trekking, backpacking, and skiing adventures, as well as custom trips. The personal service and attention is phenomenal, and you’re sure to experience a trip of a lifetime if you travel with them (as Adventure Spot co-founders know from personal experience).
